Dr. Kenneth Mirkin has always had an interest in music, and before entering college he had risen to Concert Master of an orchestra in his native New York City. He continued to pursue his interest in music at City University of New York, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Psychology and a Masters in Psychology. He earned his MD degree at Wayne State University.
Dr. Mirkin's post-doctoral training included an internship, residency, and Chief of Residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Connecticut. He did a Fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of Connecticut and is board certified in both internal medicine and gastroenterology. His medical special interests include Crohn's Disease, ulcerative colitis, inflammatory bowel disease and functional bowel disorders.
He has practiced in Northern Virginia since 1983, serving as Chief of Gastroenterology at INOVA Fairfax Hospital for 12 years and on the Medical Advisory Board of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) for more than a decade. Currently, he heads the research division of Gastroenterology Associates of Northern Virginia and is the principal investigator in a number of ongoing studies.
