Dr. Balba earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Connecticut, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He then attended graduate school at Yale University during which he was involved in molecular genetic research and teaching. Dr. Balba then attended Georgetown University for internship, residency and gastroenterology fellowship including training in advanced endoscopy. Dr. Balba joined Gastroenterology Associates of Northern Virginia in 2003 and is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology with faculty appointments at INOVA Fairfax hospital and INOVA Fair Oaks hospital. He has varied interests including advanced endoscopy such as ERCP, colonoscopy, upper endoscopy, video capsule endoscopy, IBD, functional bowel disorders, esophageal disorders, and newer technologies such as the Smart Pill. He is also involved in research including on eosinophilic esophagitis.
